(*a*) *Tapas*. *Tapasyā* is needed to purge the mind of the impurities accumulated in it from the beginning of time by the effects of *karma*, *kleśa*, *vāsanā*, covering the mind by a net-work of objectivity (*vishayajāla*). But this process of purification of mind (*chitta-prasādanam*) must be so practised that it is not interrupted by illness (*abādham*).
