Next to these half-monthly confessional meetings was the yearly recurring ceremony of Pavāraṇa or Invitation to be initiated with the following words: "I invite the Saṁgha to charge me with any offence they think me guilty of, which they have seen or heard of, or which they suspect during the period of Vassa" [*Mahāv.*, iv, 2, 1].
