**Sthāneśvara.** At Sthāneśvara Hluen Tsang found three Buddhist monasteries with more than 700 Hīnayāna monks (p. 314). In the neighbourhood was the Govinda Monastery "with high chambers in close succession and detached terraces" where the Brethren "led pure strict lives" (p. 316).
