**Mahābodhi Vihāra.** We next come to the pilgrim's account of the Great Monastery known as the Mahābodhi Saṁghārāma in Gayā built by a former king of Ceylon. "Its buildings formed six courts with terraces and halls of three storeys enclosed by walls between 30 and 40 feet high; the sculpture and pointing were perfect." "There were nearly 1,000 ecclesiastics, all Mahāyānists of the Sthavira school, and all perfect in the Vinaya observances" (p. 136).
