**Śāntarakshita as a Missionary in Tibet.** A reference has been already made to the great Nālandā Professor Śāntarakshita, who was the pioneer in the propagation of Buddhism to Tibet in the eighth century. When he visited Tibet at the invitation of its King, his Ministers escorted him with an army to his Palace. At his instance, the King constructed the first Buddhist Monastery in Tibet in A.D. 749 on the model of the famous Odantapurī Vihāra of Magadha, and appointed him as its first Abbot. He worked in this office for thirteen years and died in A.D. 762. He is the author of two works: (1) Vāda-Nyāyavṛitti-vipañchitārtha and (2) Tattva-Saṁgraha.
