The next monk to come from India was Nandi. Travelling all over India and Ceylon and collecting 1,500 Hīnayāna and Mahāyāna Texts, he came to China in A.D. 655 and was sent by the emperor next year to a distant island to secure there some medicine for him. He returned after seven years and translated three works into Chinese.
