The Chinese texts next speak of a band of Indian scholars visiting China, and numbering thirteen. They hailed from different parts of India such as "Northern India", Kashmir, "Western India", "Central India", Udyāna, and Varendra (*Fo-lin-nai*). The Indian names are known of only three of them, viz. Śīlabhadra, Śraddhāpāla, and Jñānaśrī. The last came to China in A.D. 1053 and translated two works such as "Tathāgatajñāna-mudrā-sūtra"
