"There was then neither Death nor Immortality (*Na Mṛityuḥ āsīt Amṛitaṁ na tarhi*). The Day was not divided from the Night. Only the One breathed, in Himself, without extraneous breath (*ānīt avātaṁ svadhayā Tat Ekam*). Apart from Him, there was nothing (*Tasmāt ha anyāt na paraḥ kiṁ chanaāsa*).¹
