A most catholic passage occurs in Yajurveda [xxvi, 2] which enjoins the imparting of Vedic knowledge to all classes, Brāhmaṇas and Rājanyas, Śūdras, Anāryas, and Chāraṇas (Vaiśyas) (not to speak of women) [*yathemāṁ vāchaṁ kalyāṇī-māvadhāni janebhyaḥ Brāhmaṇa-Rājanyābhyāṁ śūdrāya chāryāya cha svāya* (one's own people) *chāraṇāya*].
