v3.c11.14

This, the third volume of Series A of the *Census of the Exact Sciences in Sanskrit*, is devoted to those authors whose names begin with a cerebral (*c, ch, j,* and *jh*), a reflexive (*ṭ, ṭh, ḍ, and ḍh*), or a dental (*t, th, d, dh, and n*). Preceding the material relating to these authors is a section supplemental to volume one (Memoirs of the American Philosophical Society, vol. 81, Philadelphia, 1970) and to volume two (Memoirs of the American Philosophical Society, vol. 86, Philadelphia, 1971). This section contains abbreviations of new periodicals and series that have been consulted (p. 2), a bibliography of books and articles that have appeared or have been belatedly noticed since volume two went to press (pp. 3-6), and a list of additional catalogs that it has been possible to utilize (p. 7). In the rest of the volume will be found supplementary information concerning about 100 authors already noted in the two previous volumes (marked by asterisks) and all the data currently available concerning almost 800 new authors. The total number of authors discussed in *CESS* as the first half of Series A is concluded, therefore, is about 1450—a number which fully justifies the traditional Indian concept of an ocean of knowledge. This particular raft to rescue those in danger of drowning in it will continue in volume four with authors whose names begin with labials (*p, ph, b, bh, and m*).
