The following authors of *jātaka* works seem to have written in the fourth or fifth century since they were quoted in the sixth by Varāhamihira: Maya,⁸ Yavana, Maṇittha⁹ (Μανέθων), and Śaktipūrva (Parāśara)¹⁰ are cited on the maximum length of human life (BJ 7, 1); on the same subject of *āyurdāya* he cites Devasvāmin,¹¹ Viṣṇugupta (Cāṇakya¹²), and Siddhasena (BJ 7, 7); and Jīvaśarman¹³ is mentioned concerning *āyurdāya* (BJ 7, 9) and *rājayogas* (BJ 11, 1). Also earlier than Varāhamihira was a *jātaka* work by Bādarāyaṇa,¹⁴ though it is not clear whether or not the extant *Bhāvādhyāya*¹⁵ was a part of this, and another by Māṇḍavya.¹⁶
