6. *Recent and sub-recent rocks*, which have given rise to a drift soil, entirely different in origin from the soils of southern India, which are largely residual soils produced from the decomposition products of rocks : Old Indo-Gangetic alluvium, new Indo-Gangetic alluvium; deltaic alluvium, lateritic rocks, and desert deposits.
