Of greater importance than the account of Viradeva, however, is the fact, conclusively proved by this inscription, that Buddhism and more particularly Nālandā University were in a flourishing condition in the 9th or according to some scholars 10th century A. D. to which period Devapāla’s rule is assigned.²
