ALL institutions, it is said, are extended shadows of great men. The lives of these men, therefore, are no less important than the institutions of which they are the makers. Nālandā, likewise, was the extended shadow of its pandits Nāgārjuna, Vasubandhu, Diṅnāga, Śāntarakṣita, for instance. Personal history of these and other famous pandits of the University, then, forms the topic of this Chapter.
