The life of the author of *Śikṣā-Samuccya*, contents of which we have summarised elsewhere, makes a most interesting reading. Śāntideva’s life is preserved to us in a MS., now in the possession of the Asiatic Society of Bengal,³ and *Bauddha Gāna-o-Dohā*. The MS. gives the name of its writer as Kasthamandapiya Śrī Kirāta pandita, though the name of the work is missing.
