I-Tsing concludes his description of the rituals with the words, "In addition (to the above referred to Caityavandanas?) there are some who, sitting alone, facing the shrine (Gandhakuṭī), praise the Buddha in their heart. There are others who, going to the temple, (in a small party) kneel side by side with their bodies upright, and, putting their hands on the ground, touch it with their heads and thus perform the Threefold Salutation."¹
