I-Tsing, a pilgrim as famous as Hiuen Tsiang, also belongs to the group of travellers who came to India and Nālandā by the Southern route. From China he started for India, in A. D. 671 and arrived at Tāmralipti, at the mouth of the Hooghly, in A. D. 673.⁵
