The main use of the stair-case was perhaps to go to fetch water from a well on the stratum just below it. Besides this well, there is a very curious brick structure in the middle of the courtyard of this second monastry.⁵ In the cabutrā was found inset a couple of long duplicate panels carved in basso-relievo with a representation of a bird-bodied human figures revering a lotus plant from the 6th or 7th century A.D.¹
