¹ There is no direct evidence to show that Mihirakula razed to the ground the Nālandā buildings. But from the fact that no less than 9 levels of occupation are discovered (*See A. S. I. A. R.* 1923-24, p.70) coupled with the fact that Mihirakula had passed through Magadha, while pursuing Narasimhagupta and carried ravage and destruction throughout the land leads us to think that the buildings were destroyed for the first time by Mihirakula., also see Heras, *J.
