Thus, according to both the Chinese travellers, Śakrāditya was the first king who built a monastery at Nālandā. Moreover, they both tell us that Śakrāditya met with an opposition from the people after beginning the construction of the building. But that it was the descendants of Śakrāditya who made the institution a renowned centre of learning.
