(i) According to Heatha, the problem of transformation of a square into a rectangle given by Baudhāyana in *Bśl.* 2.3. formed the basis of the proof. For, square *ABCD* drawn on the diagonal *AD* of the right-angled triangle *AGD* is equivalent to four equilateral triangles, while its sides *GD* and *AG* produce two each (Fig. 16). This has also established Bürk’s hypothesis.b
