Again, when one-third of the *mahāvedi* (i.e. *sautrāmaṇikī vedi*) is turned into a square, its side becomes 18 *padas* (*Bśl.* 3.12). Baudhāyana says in this rule that the side of the *paitṛkī vedi* is 18/(√3). This is also quite proper, for by the first method the side of the *paitṛkī vedi* equals √108 or 18/(√3).
