The principle of enlargement of *agni* by increasing the length of the unit of measure was known in the time of the *Śatapatha Brāhmaṇa*.a It has described the construction of the *agni* of 101½ sq. *puruṣa*, where 14 or 14¾ times enlarged unit in *puruṣa* is taken up for its construction.b
