Bharata Muni was opposed to viewing *rasa* in isolation. He said that *rasa* actually emerges in *rasa-vimarda* (*rasas* crushing and overpowering each other) or *rasavyatikara* (mixture of *rasas*) and that no *rasa* should be allowed to come alone.
