Parallel to the Vedic traditions which became precursors of Sanātana Dharma, the Āgamic and Śramaṇic traditions existed right from the hoary past with their own world-view and alternate lifestyles. *Ṛgveda* X.136.2 refers to *vātaraśanā munis* (sages wearing wind as girdle, i.e. the naked ascetics). *Taittirīya Āraṇyaka* also uses the appellation of *ṛṣis* (seers) as *vātaraśanās*.¹
