The tactics of *chala* (cheating), *jāti* (avoiding reply) and *nigraha-sthānas* (clinchers), as defined by the authors of the philosophical texts, were also practised in *dharmasabhās* (law courts). Nārada condemns the conduct of *vāk-chala* (cheating by speech).¹⁷
