There are sharp differences of opinion amongst the authors of Dharmaśāstras with regard to the rights of women, especially widows.³¹ The views of Bṛhaspati, Kātyāyana and Parāśara are quite different from the others. Bṛhaspati would like to see that a widow lives with all the dignity of a lady. He says:
