The dispute on the validity of Shivaji’s coronation continued even after his death and the question of the status of Candrasenīya Kāyasthas as kṣatriyas was reopened in a massive *śāstra-sabhā* during the reign of Shahuji Bhonsale. The *sabhā* disallowed kṣatriyahood to the Candrasenīya Kāyasthas. This debate continued up to the nineteenth-twentieth centuries.⁵⁴
