Brahmin priests fall into the first half of the first millennium B. C., and that they contain elements which go back even farther? On the other hand, if Caraka wrote in the first century A. D. and Suśruta in the fifth, it would be quite justifiable to assume that Hellenistic medicine shaped their thoughts, just as Hellenistic astronomy and art gained influence on Hindu civilization.¹⁹
