³⁰ The lecture of 1940, after enumerating these saps (6 in number), gave a sort of descriptive catalogue listing all kinds of meats and vegetables and other ingredients of human diet, including medicinal herbs, fruits, roots, and minerals which are fit for medicaments. Two of the corrected pages analyze “the main points to be considered with regard to ordinances about the diet of the healthy and the ailing [are] summed up by Caraka (III, 1, 2) under eight headings.” Three others add that the treatment of particular diseases should be based on the principle *contraria contrariis* (Caraka, I, 10), enumerate the two kinds of poison also used therapeutically and note that 600 purgatives based upon six kinds of vegetable produce are described by Caraka (I, 4).
