This highest pursuit, the realization of man's metaphysical essence—that part of his nature which is supra-individual and indestructible—implies a supreme indifference toward secular existence; yet, a fair balance is achieved here with regard to the claims of earthly individual existence: Worldly Intelligence and Lady Loving Devotion should share equally in the favor of King Jīva. Only if Jīva pays attention to the disparate advice of each in due turn, will he be able to maintain the realm of the body and, at the same time, achieve success in the highest pursuit.
