Finally, one should not forget that Hindu medicine is concerned primarily with men. Women and female children, according to the prevalent Indian point of view, are of minor importance. Expectant mothers only are excepted, because they may bear male offspring, who will continue the male line and when they are grown will provide for the unbroken sequence of ancestral offerings indispensable to the well-being of their deceased forefathers.
