According to the Hindu concept, the wind, “blowing forward,” may be visualized as a sort of invisible tongue or column of a subtle airy substance. Attached to the inside of the mouth, it rhythmically slips through the lips, a ribbon alternately coiling and uncoiling, or protruding and withdrawing, curling in upon itself like the tongue of a chameleon.
