As in: "Fire falls from this" = *āgneyaḥ* [fire-born] stone; "Rivers flow from this" = *nādeyaḥ* [river-born] mountain. [An ablative] whose scope is explicitly mentioned when connected to an entity or meaning produced [from it], as in: "They protect the belly from this" = *kaikṣeyakaḥ* [dagger worn at the waist] sword; "Beans grow from this" = *maudgīnaṃ* [bean-producing] field. [An ablative] whose implied action signifies only a boundary-limit, as in: "the base of the ear" = *karṇajāham*; "the root of the wing" = *pakṣamūlam* [corruptly *baśratiḥ*]. Location (*adhikaraṇa*) is threefold: contextual (*vaiṣayika*), contactual (*aupaśleṣika*), and causal (*naimittika*). Among these, a "topic" or "domain" (*viṣaya*) is place, time, and so forth, because it encompasses (*sinoti*) in various ways and diverse modes through genus, action, quality, substance, and the like; that which pertains to the domain is contextual. For example: "Cattle exist in this" = *gomān* region; "The full moon of the constellation Puṣya is in this" = *pauṣaḥ* month. Contact (*upaśleṣa*) is adherence or physical support; that which serves for it is contactual. For example: "Men carrying staffs are in this" = *daṇḍimatī* hall; "Twenty are added here" = *viṃśaṃ śatam* [a hundred and twenty]. That which is merely a cause (*nimitta*) is causal. For example: "A month is completed on this [day]" = *paurṇamāsī* [full moon day]; "a moat may surround this" = *parikheyaḥ* region. Furthermore, although a syntactic role (*kāraka*) is of two forms due to the distinction between internal (*antaraṅga*) and external (*bahiraṅga*), by virtue of the adjunct of the nominal base, it is qualified by an agent: as in, "a move to be moved in gambling" = *ayānayīnaḥ* gaming piece; qualified by an instrument: as in, "grasped by the eye" = *caikṣuṣaṃ rūpam* [visual form]; qualified by a location: as in, "made in Srughna, or obtained [there], or bought [there]" = *satraughnaḥ*; qualified by an ablative: as in, "recently brought from the loom" = *tantrakaḥ* cloth; qualified by an agent: as in, "borne by horses" = *āśvaḥ* chariot. A qualification of the agent is also just the agent: "borne by four" = *cāturaṃ* wagon. Moreover: / "She would be the youthful bride (*kaumārī bhāryā*) whom a youth shall marry; / the youth whom a maiden marries, he is considered the youthful husband (*kaumāraḥ patiḥ*)." (2.16) / But there is no syntactic role qualified by a recipient (*saṃpradāna*). An agent qualified by an object is as in: "A funeral oblation has been eaten by him today" = *śrāddhikaḥ* [one who has eaten a śrāddha feast];
