madhyā punaḥ pragalbhā ca dvidhā sā paribhidyate
ekā jyeṣṭhā kaniṣṭhānyā nāyaka-praṇayaṃ prati //
The middle heroine (madhyā) and the mature heroine (pragalbhā) are each divided into two types: / one is the senior wife (jyeṣṭhā) and the other the junior wife (kaniṣṭhā) in relation to the hero's affection.
