kramavṛttiṣu varṇeṣu saṃghātādi na yujyate
buddhau tu sambhavatyetad anyatve 'pi pratikṣaṇam //

In the case of phonemes that occur in succession, collection and the like are not applicable;
but this is possible in the intellect, even though [the phonemes are] different at every moment.
