The moon is as if smeared with collyrium, the gaze of does is as if dulled; / the coral creeper is as if faded in redness, the glow of gold is as if darkened; / and some slight harshness is as if introduced into the throats of female cuckoos; / and alas, before Sītā, the plumes of peacocks are as if objects of reproach.'
3.59.p2
ity upakramya, śatānandaḥ (apavarya)-aho laṅkādhipater apūrva-garva-garimā | yan mamāpi śatānandasya na niścinute cetaḥ | kiṃ bhaviṣyati (1.46 padyād anantaram] ity antena rāvaṇasya sītā-rāmaṇīyaka-darśanena śatānandasya rāvaṇotsāha-darśanena ca tayoś citta-camatkāra-kathanāt paribhāvanā |
Beginning with this, up to: Śatānanda (aside): 'Ah, the unprecedented weight of the Lord of Laṅkā's pride! So that even my mind, Śatānanda's, cannot determine: what will happen?' [after verse 1.46]—because of the description of the mind's wonder in both Rāvaṇa, from seeing Sītā's loveliness, and Śatānanda, from seeing Rāvaṇa's heroic energy, there is cogitation.
