| With the words 'inherent to the nature of living beings' [he gives an example]. The illustration [is as follows]: as for instance, the birth of Sadānanda takes place on the first lunar day of the bright lunar fortnight of Bhādrapada, under the asterism Uttarāphālgunī, in the third quarter. Following the third quarter of Uttarāphālgunī, the birth-name is Padmanābha. Now, the phoneme-sound of Padmanābha is 'a'. On Padmanābha's birth-tithi, the sound named 'child' is present, and its result should be declared. Thus [the rule]. The five verses beginning with 'capalā' are self-explanatory.

"Beginning with ka", etc.: The phonemes beginning with ka and ending with da—ka, kha, ga, gha, ṅa; ca, cha, ja, jha, ña; ṭa, ṭha, ḍa, ḍha, ṇa; ta, tha, da—and likewise the five short vowels—a, i, u, e, o—these are strong in the bright fortnight. The remainder—dha, na, pa, pha, ba, bha, ma; ya, ra, la, va; śa, ṣa, sa, ha; [long vowels] ā, ī, ū, ai, au, aṃ, aḥ—these are strong in the dark fortnight. "Single sound", etc.: Where the sound of both is one, and the two phonemes at the beginning of the names belong to different fortnights, the bright and dark fortnights, there the strength of the fortnight is to be taken according to the division between bright and dark. As in the case of Kamalendra and Candrendra, who begin with the letters ka and ca, the phoneme-sound is one, the vowel a; the letter ka is strong in the bright fortnight, and the letter ca is strong in the dark fortnight.
