Before this phrase, the Sanskrit in Samtani’s edition also has “nonawareness in respect to instances of dependent arising” (pratītyasamutpādeṣv ajñānam, Samtani 1971, p. 6), and Samtani reports ANe as having the alternative “nonawareness in respect to dependent arising” (pratītyasamutpāde ’jñānam, Samtani 1971, p. 6, n. 5).
