dharmas, that which is the ultimate extent of all their divisions, is quantitative existence—for instance, the aggregates by the number five, the internal sensory bases by the number six, the external sensory bases by the number six alone, and so on. Maitreya, regarding that, that which is the tathatā of those very afflicted and purified dharmas is qualitative existence. It is also of seven aspects: The tathatā of arising is the beginninglessness and endlessness of saṃskāras. The tathatā of characteristic is the selflessness of persons and the selflessness of dharmas of all dharmas. The tathatā of vijñapti is that saṃskāras are vijñapti alone. The tathatā of abiding is the truth of suffering that I have taught. The tathatā of wrong engagement is the truth of the origin that I have taught. The tathatā of purification is the truth of cessation that I have taught. The tathatā of correct engagement is the truth of the path that I have taught. Maitreya, regarding that, by the tathatā of arising, the tathatā of abiding, and the tathatā of wrong engagement, all sentient beings are similar and equal. Maitreya, regarding that, by the tathatā of characteristic and the tathatā of vijñapti, all dharmas are similar and equal. Maitreya, by the tathatā of purification, all bodhi—whether the bodhi of a śrāvaka, the bodhi of a pratyekabuddha, or unexcelled, perfectly complete bodhi—is similar and equal. Maitreya, regarding that, by the tathatā of correct engagement, the prajñā gathered by śamatha and vipaśyanā focused on all heard sambhinnadharmas is similar and equal.
