Just as it is taught in the very first dedication on all occasions of roots of wholesome virtue, he generates an aspiration thus: 'How might these roots of wholesome virtue become a livelihood and beneficial for all living beings, culminating in the pure Dharma, so that by these roots of wholesome virtue there may be for all sentient beings the pacification of the hells and lower realms, and they might turn back from the aggregate of suffering of animals and the realm of Yama?' Dedicating those roots of wholesome virtue, he dedicates that root of wholesome virtue thus: 'By this root of wholesome virtue, may I become an eye for all sentient beings, in order to turn back the entire aggregate of suffering; may I become a protector for all sentient beings, by delivering them from all afflictions; may I become a refuge for all sentient beings, by guarding them from all fears; may I become a destination for all sentient beings, by leading them to all grounds; may I become a ultimate recourse for all sentient beings, by causing them to obtain absolute security; may I become a light for all sentient beings, by revealing vision free of darkness; may I become a torch for all sentient beings, by dispelling the dark blindness of ignorance; may I become an illumination for all sentient beings, by establishing them in absolute purity; may I become a guide for all sentient beings, by introducing them to the inconceivable method of the Dharma; may I become a leader for all sentient beings, by bringing them to the unimpeded aggregate of gnosis' — and so on.
