Having prepared the place for accomplishment, / each day, first abiding in mindfulness and wisdom, / when first rising from sleep according to the Dharma, / eliminate all endless hindrances; / the sins generated by negligence that night / are all repented and cleared through earnest purification. / With tranquil senses and a compassionate mind of benefit, / vow to deliver the endless realms of sentient beings. / Bathing according to the Dharma or not bathing, / one should purify body, speech, and mind. / Next, in an empty, quiet place in the chamber of fasting, / scatter marvelous flowers and the like to adorn it. / Place images and supreme, marvelous texts as available, / or mentally contemplate the buddhas of the ten directions, / seeing them clearly and distinctly before the eye of the mind. / Relying on the direction in which the iṣṭadevatā resides, / abiding with utmost sincerity, reverence, and single-mindedness, / prostrate casting the five limbs to the ground: / "I take refuge in the Samyaksaṃbuddhas of the ten directions, / who throughout the three times possess the three bodies; / I take refuge in all the teachings of the Mahāyāna; / I take refuge in the non-retrogressing assembly of bodhi; / I take refuge in all the true words of the vidyās; / I take refuge in all the secret mudrās; / with the pure karma of body, speech, and mind, / I pay earnest, immeasurable, and reverent homage."
