4.35

「我於往昔修菩提，為眾生故作鬼王，
眾生久處無明闇，我以金錍開其眼，
慧眼既開度生死，生死既度昇泥洹。」

"In the past I cultivated awakening, / and for the sake of sentient beings became a spirit king;
sentient beings have long dwelled in the darkness of ignorance, / and with a golden lancet I open their eyes;
once the eye of wisdom is opened, they cross over birth and death, / and having crossed birth and death, they ascend to nirvāṇa."
