3.81

我於往昔修菩提，為眾生故作鬼王，
眾生久處無明闇，我以金錍開其眼，
慧眼既開度生死，生死既脫昇泥洹。

"In the past I cultivated bodhi;
For the sake of sentient beings, I became a ghost king.
Sentient beings have long dwelled in the darkness of ignorance;
With a golden probe I open their eyes.
Once the eye of wisdom is opened, they cross birth and death;
Having escaped birth and death, they ascend to nirvāṇa."
