Trāṇamukta Bodhisattva further wished to expound: "There are four great vows not shared with śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas. What are the four? First, may my mind be like the great earth: all grasses, trees, thickets, forests, and sprouts grow dependent on it, while the earth has neither hatred nor love; second, may my mind be like a bridge or ferry, conveying across sentient beings without weariness; third, may my mind be like the great ocean, accommodating all the hundreds of rivers and multitude of streams pouring into it without overflowing; fourth, may my body be like empty space, containing the myriad things just as the Dharma-nature does. Such are the four great vows of a bodhisattva, not shared with śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas."
