"These fifteen spirits, terrifying infants with such forms, as well as the signs of fright in infants, I have fully explained. Furthermore, there is a great spirit-king named Candana Gandharva, the foremost among all spirits. One should recite this dhāraṇī using five-colored thread, tying one knot per recitation until one hundred and eight knots are made, and write down the names of those spirits. One should have a messenger carry this writing and the thread, saying to that messenger: 'Go now swiftly, moving as fast as the wind to the four directions.' Proceeding to the dwelling places of those fifteen spirits, together with Candana Gandharva, the great spirit-king, have him bind those spirits with the five-colored thread, and moreover make offerings to the spirit-king with various delicious foods and drinks, fragrant flowers, lamps, and milk rice."
