"Venerable sisters! Today at the poṣadha we recite the prātimokṣa. All together listen and reflect upon it well! If anyone has an offense, she should make āviṣkaraṇa; those without offenses should remain silent. Because of your silence, it should be known that I and the venerable sisters are in pariśuddhi. Just as the noble ones are silent, so too am I and the venerable sisters. If any bhikṣuṇī, when it is proclaimed up to three times within such an assembly, remembers having an offense and does not make āviṣkaraṇa, she incurs the offense of a deliberate lie. The offense of a deliberate lie was declared by the Buddha to be a Dharma that obstructs the path. She who makes āviṣkaraṇa attains peace and ease; for her who does not make āviṣkaraṇa, the offense becomes ever deeper."
