比丘著泥洹僧有五事：一者不得到持下著上、二者當使四邊等、三者襞頭當近左面、四者結帶當於右面、五者帶當三繞不得垂兩頭。

There are five matters regarding a bhikṣu putting on the nivāsana: first, he must not put the bottom at the top; second, he must make the four edges even; third, the pleated fold must be near the left side; fourth, the tie must be knotted on the right side; fifth, the tie must be wound three times, and its two ends must not hang down.
