When a niśrayācārya instructs a disciple, there are fifteen matters: First, when the bhikṣusaṅgha convenes, he should instruct him to observe senior and junior members according to the Dharma. Second, when the bhikṣusaṅgha has instructions, he should ensure that the disciple does not violate them. Third, he should instruct him to comply with the seniors and juniors of the saṅgha. Fourth, he should teach him to be respectful. Fifth, he should inform him of the taboos and local customs of the land, what food may be eaten, and what is appropriate and inappropriate. Sixth, he should inform him of places to beg for food, where he may go and where he may not go. Seventh, if there are bandits and thieves, where he may take refuge and where he may not take refuge. Eighth, when the disciple is emaciated from illness, he should tend to him. Ninth, when his robes and blankets are worn out, he should provide him with replacements. Tenth, whether the disciple leaves or stays, he must not detain or obstruct him. Eleventh, he should be considerate of the other's feelings. Twelfth, he should accommodate him according to expedience wherever he stays. Thirteenth, when [the disciple] comes with questions, he should answer with modesty. Fourteenth, when sprinkling water on the ground, he should always be courteous. Fifteenth, when the disciple has faults, he must not say, 'I will not speak to you anymore.' Such is the rule for a niśrayācārya.
