When a bhikṣu has a śrāmaṇera, he should practice five matters: First, when the śrāmaṇera has not finished performing affairs for the saṅgha, he must not call upon him for private service. Second, he must not make the śrāmaṇera seek out the shortcomings of worthy persons. Third, he must not readily believe the śrāmaṇera's words. Fourth, he must not scold the śrāmaṇera in a loud voice within the assembly. Fifth, he must not employ him solely for personal tasks, but allow him to serve the affairs of the saṅgha.
